In the last few weeks, we’ve gotten our first taste of Rustie for 2013. The Glaswegian producer has been rather quiet since the release of 2011′s Glass Swords, which mixed forward-thinking hip-hop with a trance vibe and was touted as one of the year’s best albums. Today, he released Slasherr/Triadzz on Numbers.
Slasherr is a larger than life, synth-laden hip hop track that soars through speakers intensely before being relieved by a gentle glockenspiel breakdown. Triadzz, which first became available to stream today, is equally anthemic with Rustie’s maximal prog-rock elements, but takes a turn toward minimal trap sounds on the drop. Both tracks are remnants of the oddball Glaswegian hip hop sound that Rustie has helped shape over the past few years–typically atypical.
